On Thursday, May 8, 2025, at approximately 07:32 AM, Cass County Central Dispatch was notified of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 825 West and County Road 250 North. Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County Fire District #1, and Cass County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Initial assessment found an eastbound minivan struck a northbound sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Deputy Caine Padgett’s preliminary investigation found that 55-year-old Helen Hayes of Monticello, IN, had been driving a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country van eastbound on County Road 250 North when she failed to yield the right of way to a northbound 2019 Jeep Cherokee. 28-year-old Anna Chapel of rural Logansport, IN, was driving the Jeep.

Anna Chapel and two juvenile passengers received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by Cass County Emergency Medical Services to Logansport Memorial Hospital. The passengers were six and two years old and properly restrained in child seats.

Helen Hayes sustained serious injuries and was flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne via a medical helicopter.

Alcohol and narcotics are not believed to be a factor in this crash.

The intersection was restricted for crash investigation and vehicle removal for approximately one hour.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the office at 574-753-7800.
