Richard (“Dick”) Howell, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2025.
Born on October 21, 1935, in Walton, Indiana. Richard was the son of Richard T. and Blanche (Vore) Howell.
Richard was a 1953 graduate of Washington Township High School. After graduation, Richard joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, completing his military career with a rank of Sergeant.
On December 7, 1957, Richard married Alta Kay Howell, with whom he shared many devoted years until her passing. Richard lived a long and full life marked by quiet strength, devotion to family, and unwavering integrity.
He was a man who found joy in a simple pleasure of life-spending time on the golf course, enjoying a game of poker with his family and friends, walking his dog by the river or through a park. Prior to enjoying his later in life pleasures, he was rarely seen without his trusted tool belt and often said that as long as he had his tool belt, he could provide for his family.
He will be remembered not only for the love and devotion of his family, but for his steady work ethic, his sharp wit and sense of humor.
Surviving are three children, Melinda Howell, Lisa Kruger (Tim) and Timothy Howell (Lisa); grandchildren, Taylor, Bryce (Azra), Gabby and Landen; great-grandchildren, Emma, Zaeden, Daxden and Sofia. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert E. Howell (Wanda), Harold L. Howell and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Judy Howell.
A private service will be held by the family to honor his memory.
