F&K Construction begins water service line identification work in downtown Logansport

Last Updated on May 1, 2026 by Cass County Communication Network

Logansport Utilities’ contractor for the ongoing water service line replacement project will be working in the downtown area.

Crews will begin identifying existing water service line materials through a process commonly referred to as “potholing,” which involves small, targeted excavations used to safely locate and inspect underground lines.

This work is part of the continued effort of replacing lead water service lines and galvanized steel lines located downstream from lead lines. Many of these lines were installed more than 50 years ago and include some service connections located inside homes and businesses. In some cases, primarily involving commercial properties and businesses, crews will also need to conduct brief interior inspections to verify the material of water service lines inside buildings.

Property owners or occupants will be contacted directly if interior access is needed.

Once a home or business has been identified for water line replacement, F & K Construction staff will provide advance notification and detailed information to the affected resident or business owner.

All water line replacement work is provided at no cost to the customer.

The water line replacement project began in 2023. A third round of funding was secured by Logansport Utilities in August 2025 through the State Revolving Fund (SRF) with $2.5 million in grant funding and up to $2.5 million in zero-interest loans.

The utility’s ongoing goal is to replace approximately all 4,500 lead service lines in Logansport, ensuring residents have long-term safe, clean, and reliable drinking water.
