Memorial Day Events & Closures

In honor and recognition of all of our fallen service members, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved May 11, 1950, as amended (36 U.S.C. 116), has requested the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace and designating a period on that day when the people of the United States might unite in prayer.  The Congress, by Public Law 106-579, has also designated 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as a time for all Americans to observe, in their own way, the National Moment of Remembrance.

Flags should fly at half-staff until noon on Monday, May 25, 2026 in observance of Memorial Day.

The National Memorial Day Concert on PBS premieres on the Sunday evening before Memorial Day. Most stations air the Concert at 8:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CT and repeat the program at 9:30 p.m. ET. | More info

Federal, state and local government offices, including Logansport Utilities, will be closed Monday, May 25 in observance of the holiday.

The Cass County Government Building (Courthouse) will be closed Friday, May 22 and Monday, May 25, 2026 in observance of Memorial Day.

The Cass County Solid Waste warehouse (recycling) will be closed on Friday, May 22-Monday, May 25, 2026 in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 26 at 7:30 am.

Trash pickup for Logansport residents: Due to the Memorial Day holiday, trash and recycling collection normally scheduled for Monday will be collected on Tuesday. Once Monday’s collections are completed, crews will move into Tuesday’s route, then Wednesday’s route, and so on until all collections are completed. Residents with regularly scheduled collection Tuesday through Friday should still have their trash and recycling out on their regularly scheduled collection day. Collection will continue progressing through routes as crews complete each day’s work. This is not a traditional one-day holiday delay schedule. Please have all trash and recycling placed out for collection by 5:30 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day to ensure service.

Cass County’s Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 at the Logansport City Building. Lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the public and all military veterans are invited to participate. The parade route will include brief programs at the City Building, Cass County Government Building on 4th Street and the 6th St. Bridge. The parade will then travel to the Civil War monument in Mount Hope Cemetery for a brief program, followed by a brief program at Legion Circle in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Walton American Legion will present a Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 25, 2026 from 1-7 p.m. at the Lewis Cass Alumni Pavilion. Memorial Day Service at the Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery at 3 p.m. Monday.

Taps Across America National Moment of Remembrance will take place at 3 p.m. Monday. | Details

All BMV branches will be closed Saturday, May 23, 2026 through Monday, May 25, 2026 in observance of Memorial Day. Branches will resume regularly scheduled business hours on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The U.S. Postal Service will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2026. All Post Office locations will be closed. Regular mail delivery and retail services will resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
