LOGANSPORT – A Purdue University sophomore has announced he wants to represent the east end of Logansport and the surrounding townships on the Cass County Council. Max Kitchell, a Logansport student in the John Martinson Honors College at Purdue, is seeking the District 3 seat.

“I’m making my first bid for elected office because we can do more, and we have to do more to find a better way to move our community forward. It’s time for my generation to step up and be represented not only on the county council, but in local government,” Kitchell said, “I’ve heard many concerns that just aren’t being addressed at the local level, including inflation and the cost of living, the impact of AI on our local job market and having one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. Our income levels are
not high relative to the rest of the state, and our local taxes are tied for the highest in the state. People expect better, and I think with a fiscally conservative approach, we can get there by just doing some things differently and having some new priorities.”

Among the priorities he cited were to pursue county funding for a Mall Road bridge over the Eel River, a project that has been discussed for years. “If any bridge is built, it is the county’s responsibility to make it part of the county bridge inventory,” he said. “This would potentially open up more development and housing construction.”

Kitchell said he also supports extension of water lines east of the city limits to improve fire protection for some of the most expensive homes in the county, a move that would likely lower their insurance rates without annexing them into the city of Logansport.

Recycling also is a concern of residents outside the city who are often finding what recycling drop-offs available to them are full.

Kitchell also said he wants to ensure that the next sheriff and prosecutor have adequate resources to address drug abuse and prevention in Logansport and Cass County.

Kitchell is a 2025 graduate of Logansport High School where he received an Academic Honors Diploma. A three-sport athlete, he was the only Indiana student to be Indiana Academic All-State in baseball, basketball and tennis last year. He played on the 2023 Logansport Babe Ruth state championship team and the 2024 Kokomo American Legion Junior state championship team.
