Myla Elizabeth Clary, 98, of Warren, Indiana, formerly of Lucerne, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Parkview Hospital, in Huntington.
Born February 1, 1925, in Howard County, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. Vandercook and M.. Bonheur (Mills) Vandercook. Around 1930, she moved to Peru with her mother, maternal grandmother and a brother. She attended South Peru School until 1933, then Grant Street School, and Peru Jr.-Sr. High School, graduating in 1943.
Myla worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company as an operator during WWII in Peru, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Camp Atterbury. For a few months, she taught ballroom dancing at the Arthur Murray Studio in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. She worked for the Pioneer Regional School Corporation as an elementary secretary from 1966-1976.
She married Donald Lee Clary on December 14, 1947, at the Peru Methodist Church. They moved to Lucerne in 1949 then to Heritage Pointe, in Warren in May 2004. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2015
She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Lucerne, and the Royal Center Chapter No. 375 Order of the Eastern Star. Myla was a charter member of the Lamplighters Extension Homemakers Club of Cass County. She enjoyed music, crocheting, and dancing.
Surviving are two sons, Brian L. Clary (wife: Kathleen Neer) of Matteson, Illinois, and Alan Day Clary (wife: Cheri McKee Clary) of Indianapolis; one grandson, Jacob Neer Clary (wife: Elly Clary); and two great-grandsons, Leo and Milo Clary.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, September 11, a visitation will be held at Fisher Funeral Chapel, 1801 Chase Road, Logansport.
A funeral service celebrating Myla’s life will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Chaplain Jennifer of Heritage Pointe officiating.
Burial will follow in the Zion Methodist Cemetery in Lucerne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Pointe, 801 North Huntington Ave., Warren, IN.
