On 10 October 2025 at approximately 305pm public safety agencies were dispatched to the area of Western Avenue in Logansport for a report of a possible train derailment.

Upon arrival response personnel utilized a drone from the Cass County Emergency Management Agency as well as personnel on foot to evaluate the area. It was determined a minor derailment had occurred on the tracks running behind Western Avenue residences, East of Wabash River Avenue. The non-derailed cars blocked Cliff Drive and Wabash Avenue for multiple hours after the derailment occurred.

The cars, being moved by TP&W Railroad, were less than 10 in number and were mostly empty dry good cars. HAZMAT Placarded tank cars that were part of the train were assessed by HAZMAT Personnel and no signs of damage or leaking were present. These cars remained intact and upright. HAZMAT personnel stood by and continued to monitor while additional information was gathered.

Railroad representatives arrived on scene and determined non-derailed cars could be separated and moved to reopen Cliff Drive and Wabash Avenue. Work to repair tracks and remove remaining rail cars is anticipated to begin Monday and continue next week.

Responding agencies included Cass County Emergency Management Agency, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County Fire District 1, Logansport Police Department, Logansport Fire Department and Cass County Highway Department.

Non-derailed cars were removed and roadways were back open at approximately 630pm

There were no injuries or fatalities reported in connection to this incident.
