Loretta I. Swigart, 100, Logansport, Indiana, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Signature HealthCare-Parkwood in Lebanon, Indiana.
Born March 8, 1925, in Metea, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand Martin Conrad and Marie Elizabeth (Hubenthal) Conrad Strong.
Loretta was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1943 at Meta High School. She furthered her education at Ball State Teacher’s College in Muncie.
She married Williard Clay Swigart on September 6, 1946. They shared 66 years of love, laughter, and devotion before his passing on February 21, 2012. Together, they built a beautiful life and a close-knit family.
A homemaker, Loretta loved gardening and canning the produce she raised. When her sons were young, she volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was active with the PTA at McKinley Elementary School.
A longtime member of Metea Baptist Church, she found joy in singing with the choir and sharing her faith. She also taught in the Weekday Religious Education program in Cass County schools, planting seeds of faith and hope in young hearts. Her own quiet ministry—calling shut-ins who needed a cheerful voice—was a simple but powerful way she shared God’s love.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lorraine Swigart, Logansport, and Paul and Linda Swigart, Indianapolis; one brother, Everett Conrad, of Marion; five grandchildren, Kelly, Heather, Joel, Valerie, and Alissa; seventeen great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy (Dwight) Beard; her brothers, Joseph (Frances) Conrad, and Donald (Charlotte) Conrad; sister-in-law, Beverly Conrad; daughter-in-law, Berniece “Dolly” Swigart; and her stepfather, Hugh Strong.
A funeral service celebrating Loretta’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 18, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Lutes officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Metea Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Weekday Religious Education, P.O. Box 152, Logansport, IN 46947.
