ABOUT THE PRIMARY IN MAY

Tuesday, May 5, 2026 is Primary Election Day in Indiana. Federal, state and county offices are on the ballot.

The parties are nominating their candidates for November’s municipal election, so primary election voters will select either a Democratic or Republican ballot.

Minor Party, Independent, and Write-In candidates will file declarations of candidacy for the November General Election later in the year, after the May Primary Election is held.

The deadline to file a declaration of candidacy for the Primary was Friday, February 6, 2026 at noon. Under Indiana law, election officials are prohibited from accepting filings after the deadline.
