Sharon Applegate, age 81, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born March 10, 1945, in Frankfort, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Ezra John and Ruth Frieda (Endress) Cable.

Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. To her family, she was thoughtful, strong, and quietly loving.

She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Ball State University and a Master’s of Science in Elementary Education from Indiana University and dedicated her career to teaching. Sharon retired from Southwestern Elementary School in Hanover, Indiana.

Sharon shared 59 years of marriage with her husband, Don. Together they traveled the world and built a home based on love, resilience, and humor.

She was a proud mother to Elizabeth and Joel. Welcoming Maricel into the family and becoming a grandmother to Alexander brought fresh light and energy into her life. She cherished the family dogs and was deeply comforted by Oscar in her final weeks.

Her life’s pleasures included travel, nature and gardening, holiday preparations, and family time. In her final season, Sharon was cared for with tenderness and dignity, and her family is grateful for those who walked alongside them.

Surviving with her husband, Don, are their children: Elizabeth Heather Applegate, Joel Alexander Applegate and his wife, Maricel, one grandson, Alexander Applegate, all of Titusville, Florida; one brother, Duane Cable and his wife, Mary; and one sister, June Scott.

A funeral service celebrating Sharon’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2026, at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to AdoptAClassroom.org or your local hospice in her memory.
