MHA-WVR launches “Light Up Green” campaign and full May calendar for Mental Health Awareness Month

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Mental Health America Wabash Valley Region (MHA-WVR) is inviting communities across North Central Indiana to Light Up Green this May in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, joining a national movement led by Mental Health America, the national organization that founded Mental Health Awareness Month in 1949. Mental Health America’s annual Light Up Green initiative encourages communities across the country to illuminate buildings, landmarks, and public spaces in green to show support for mental health awareness.

Here in North Central Indiana, MHA-WVR’s local May campaign will include proclamations, family-friendly events, trainings, partner activations, media appearances, and community gatherings designed to keep the conversation going all month long. Events featured on MHAWV.ORG/MAY include county proclamation events, public education opportunities, community partner events, and awareness activities that make it easy for residents to participate close to home. The May page also offers downloadable tools and ideas to help businesses, schools, organizations, and families take part in Mental Health Awareness Month in their own way.

MHA-WVR encourages residents, elected officials, businesses, schools, and community partners to join the effort by wearing green, lighting buildings or offices in green, attending a local event, and downloading the organization’s May toolkit and activity ideas.
