Forrest Michael Fernung, 65, passed away on June 12, 2026. He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought laughter, wisdom, strength, and love to all who knew him.
Forrest was a talented chef, a naturalist at heart, and a true jack of all trades. He possessed a remarkable ability to learn, create, fix, and teach. Whether he was preparing a meal, working with his hands, sharing his knowledge of nature, or helping someone in need, Forrest approached life with dedication and passion.
A man of strong faith in God, Forrest found comfort and guidance in his beliefs throughout his life. He also had a deep love for music and the arts, finding joy and inspiration in creativity, expression, and the beauty they brought to the world around him.
Those who knew Forrest will remember his animated personality, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor. He had a gift for making people smile and a way of bringing light to even the most difficult moments. His stories, laughter, and unique perspective on life will remain cherished memories for family and friends.
Forrest was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Ann Fernung.
He is survived by his father, Forrest Joseph Fernung; his stepmother, Sandy Fernung; his sister, Helen Fernung Szakaly; his children, Aaron Fernung, Erika Lee Fernung, and Ryan Joseph Fernung; and his daughter-in-law, Lauren Nicole Fernung.
He was a proud grandfather to Landon Michael William Fernung, Noah Allen Fernung, Faith Marie Fernung, Charlotte Fernung, Alekzandra LeeAnn Powers, Maddison Bree Powers, Joslynn Reagan Powers, Zoey Mae Norton, Daisy Lynn Norton, Miles Joseph Fernung, and Matthew Joseph Fernung.
Just three days after Forrest’s passing, his great-grandson, Zamhir David Cortez Powers, was born. Though Forrest was unable to meet him, his family finds comfort in knowing that a new generation carries forward his legacy and the love he shared with his family.
Forrest’s greatest joy was his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and he cherished the time he spent with them. His legacy of faith, hard work, humor, creativity, resilience, and love will continue through each of them.
Though Forrest’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, his family finds peace in knowing that he has been reunited with loved ones who went before him and rests in the presence of the Lord he faithfully believed in. His memory will live on through the family he loved, the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the lessons he taught.
Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever in God’s care.
