Sharon L Smith, 83, of Logansport, Indiana, passed away Friday evening, July 17, 2026, in the comfort of her home surrounded by the family she loved so much.

Born September 1, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy Benjamin and Ella Lucille (Bills) Hatch.

Sharon met the love of her life, Clifford M. Smith, Jr., at a dance at the Airman’s Club – and the rest, as they say, is history. The couple were married on September 21, 1963, in Michigan and went on to share a long, happy marriage built around a beautiful family.

A graduate of Port Austin High School, Sharon went on to complete her training and licensing as a beautician. She worked as a salesclerk in JC Penney’s for 27 years in the Women’s Ready-to-Wear Department at the Logansport Mall.

Sharon’s hobbies included gardening and caring for her plants – she truly had a green thumb. She was an avid reader and was rarely seen without a good book in hand. Sharon also volunteered at Memorial Hospital for several years. Most of all, she enjoyed lovingly nagging her husband. Many would say she was good at it; others will laugh and insist he simply needed a little push. Nonetheless, they loved each other deeply and walked through life with humor and devotion.

Surviving with her husband, Smitty, are two children, son, John Smith and his wife, Terri, and daughter, Kim Case and her husband, Roger; two brothers, Michael Hatch and Kenny Hatch; her half-brothers, Dean Hatch, Mark Hatch and LeRoy Hatch, Jr.; and half- sisters, Tammy Ritter and Missy; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a half-brother, David Hatch.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, July 23rd, in Fisher Funeral Chapel

A Memorial Service celebrating Sharon’s life will follow at 4 p.m. with Dawn Fisher officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
