Exterior rehabilitation work on Memorial Center to begin Monday, Aug. 24, 2026

If you drive past the Memorial Center in the coming weeks, you’ll start to see real activity. Berglund Construction of Chicago mobilizes on Monday to begin the exterior rehabilitation of the building, with roughly 12 weeks of work ahead.
Getting to this point took patience. When construction pricing first came in above the funds available, we didn’t cut the project loose, we worked through a detailed value engineering process with our architects and contractor to bring costs in line while protecting the quality and historic integrity of the work. The result is a project that puts both grant funds and public dollars to efficient, responsible use.
More than just saving an old building, this work honors our sacred duty to preserve a living World War I memorial. Rehabilitating this landmark ensures we maintain a dedicated space to honor our local veterans while creating a useful community center for all of our citizens today and for generations to come.
