Custodian (afternoon shift)

Job Description:

• The school custodian keeps educational facilities clean, safe, and functional by performing daily cleaning of the school facility, ensuring a positive learning environment for students and staff through diligent upkeep and attention to detail that creates a conducive, healthy environment for learning.
• This is an afternoon position working 2pm – 10:30pm, 260 days, 8 hr/day

Job Responsibilities:

• Trash collection and removal, sweeping, mopping, and dusting
• Regular cleaning of plumbing fixtures, window glass, and stairways also required
• This job requires occasional heavy lifting and some knowledge of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
• Must be able to climb a ladder to assist with changing ceiling tiles and light bulbs in ceiling fixtures
• Ability to make minor repairs to building interiors and exteriors as needed
• Assist with the removal of snow and ice anytime of the day or night to include weekends and holidays
• Assist with after school athletic events when requested
• Maintain playground spaces and equipment
  Perform related duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

• Must have the ability to push, pull, lift and carry items weighing more than 10 pounds
• Must be able to bend over, reach downward or upward, and to wring a wet mop
• Must maintain storage areas in an organized fashion
• Maintain school facilities and grounds in condition of operating excellence, cleanliness and safety so that full educational use of the facility can take place
• Mechanical skills and previous working and maintenance experience with landscaping/janitorial equipment will be beneficial
• Floor care experience is beneficial
• Must be able to work alone or as part of a team
• High school diploma or equivalent and must have the ability to communicate with fellow employees and read English
• Knowledge of cleaning principles and safety procedures
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions
• Candidate must be motivated to assist routinely with staffing assorted after school events to include athletics, facility rentals, special events, etc. These events include evening and weekend availability.
• Candidate will attend and complete a Certified Pool Operator Certification Program
• Upon offer, applicant must complete and clear a drug screen and expanded criminal history background check for school personnel as required by IN state law.
