Sgt. Matthew Dean Stanton

stantonSgt. Matthew Dean Stanton, 35, of Peru, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at his residence.

Born on March 3, 1980 in Logansport he was the son of Harold and Becky (Wallace) Stanton.  Matthew was a 1998 graduate of Logansport High School. After High School Matt joined the National Guard in 1998 and served two years before becoming full time active duty in 2000 with the United States Army and serving in Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq.  While serving his country he received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. Matt was also a avid Pittsburg Steelers Fan.

Surviving along with his parents, Harold & Becky is one sister, Dawn (Mike) Gatliff, Peru; daughter, Allyson Stanton, La Vergne, TN; nieces and nephews, Melachi, Trinity, Felicite, and Michael Gatliff Jr.; paternal grandmother, Alice Stanton, Logansport; maternal grandmother, Shirley Elpers, Kewanna; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alexis Lynn Stanton.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in the Gundrum Funeral

Home with Pastor David Payton officiating.  Burial with full Military Graveside Rites will be held in the Shideler Cemetery, Logansport.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, also in the funeral home.
