Margaret (Peg) Minglin

minglinMargaret (Peg) Minglin, 94, of New Waverly, passed away Tuesday November 3, 2015 at 5:40 am in Chase Center, Logansport.

Peg was born on July 20, 1921, in Royal Center. She was the daughter of Chester and Mary (Dewitt) Kistler.

Peg graduated from Royal Center High School. She was married June 29, 1940, in Logansport to John Aaron Minglin who preceded in death on February 13, 1998. Peg was a member of the Miami Baptist Church at Adamsboro and was former co-owner, with her husband, of the Minglin General Store in New Waverly. Peg and her husband also owned several race cars throughout their life and traveled many states racing with their cars. Two of the drivers of their race cars drove in the Indianapolis 500 race. In her earlier years she was a 4-H leader and member of a Home Economics Extension Club, Top’s Club and Red Hat Society Club. She had always been an avid sports fan. She and her husband spent their winters in Florida.

Peg enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and word finds, sewing, cross stitching, mushroom hunting and raspberry picking. She made the best peanut brittle ever which she sold lots of around Christmas time at the Minglin General Store. She and her husband owned a concession trailer which they set up at flea markets and auction sales. She also enjoyed her flower gardens, vegetables gardens and bird watching.

Surviving along with her son, John R. (Bonnie) Minglin , Logansport; one sister, Marr Minnick, Logansport; daughter-in-law, Carla Minglin, Terre Haute; former son-in-law, Larry Martin, Logansport; five grandchildren, Mike (Tami) Martin, Danny (Patty) Minglin, Angie (Thom) Balitewicz, Chuck Minglin and companion Gerri Walker, Shannon Minglin and companion Shannon Dillman; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Chester Kistler; mother, Mary Dewitt Kistler; husband, John A. Minglin; son, Walter Minglin; daughter, Marsha Martin; granddaughter, Kathy Martin; brother, Chester Kistler; sisters, Betty Myers, Marian McKee and Cynthia Martin.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30AM Monday November 9, 2015 at Gundrum Funeral Home with Dr. Sam Young officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Baptist Cemetery, Logansport, IN.

Visitation will be on Sunday November 8, 2015 from 1:00PM until 4:00PM at Gundrum Funeral Home.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to River of Life Christian Church or Gideon’s International.
