Donna June (Hopkins) Delaney

delaneyDonna June (Hopkins) Delaney, 85 of Logansport, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in  Logansport.

Donna was born on June 2, 1930 to the late Wilbur Hopkins and Iona Greider. On October 6, 1946 she married Alvin E. Delaney who preceded in death on November 30, 2010.

She and Alvin traveled all over the lower United States, Canada and Alaska.  In 1976 they decided to move to Avon Park, Florida; after 30 years they returned to Logansport in 2006 because of ill health.  She enjoyed going to the First Church of the Nazarene where she was a member. Donna also enjoyed going to the ’48 class luncheons on the first Monday of the month.

While her children were growing up she was a room mother, Sunday School teacher and a cub scout leader. She started working at age 15, at Woolworths and worked in retail most of her life. Donna retired from the Sebring, Florida Walmart in 1997 after twelve and a half years. She then spent much of her time being her husband’s care giver until 2010.

She is survived by two sons, Larry E. (Pixie) Delaney, Indianapolis; John (Kathy) Delaney, Logansport; daughter, Cathy (Mike) Weaver, Camden; seven granddaughters, Tammy Matthews, Galveston; Shannon (Jeremy) Baker, Indianapolis; Sabrina (John) Berkshire, Logansport; Michelle (Brian) Harmon, Logansport; Sara (Justin) Clonan, Washington; Samantha (Desmon) Heyward, Georgia; Brianne (Rob) Negrete, Wesley Chapel, Florida; three grandsons, Ryan Delaney, Edwards Air Force Base, California; Michael Berkshire, Burnettsville; David (Sabrina) Berkshire, Kokomo, IN; one sister, Phyllis Hamman, Monterey, IN; twenty seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and one great granddaughter.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2016 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Dr. Horace Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville, IN.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 25 also in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, Logansport.
