Romayne Wentzel

wentzelRomayne Wentzel, 91, of Kewanna passed away peacefully at 8:35 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2016 at Wynnfield Crossing in Rochester.

Born March 8, 1925 in Macy, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Esther (Donaldson) Smith. On July 2, 1950, she married Covert Leroy Wentzel. He preceded her in death on January 27, 1997.

Romayne was a 1943 Fulton High School graduate and a graduate of Indiana University Nursing School. She was also a member of the Cadet Nurse Program during WWII.

She formerly worked at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester as a nurse. She was also a homemaker and farm wife. Romayne enjoyed reading.

She was very involved in the development and construction of the new addition to the Kewanna Public Library.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church at Bruce Lake and a former board member of the Kewanna Public Library for more than 10 years and was also a member of Farm Bureau.

Survivors include her children, Timothy Wentzel (Jeri) of Hicksville, OH., Roger Wentzel (Julie) of Falls Church, VA., Donald Wentzel (Amy) of Fishers, IN., Rebecca Slentz (Michael) of Butler, IN., Christine Stopa (Spencer) of Mesa, AZ. and Carol Holmquest of Kewanna, IN. and grandchildren, Karla Morton (Jeremy) of Fulton, MO., Laura Wentzel (Whitney Asher) of Lenox, MA., Stephen Wentzel, of Lenox, MA., Daniel Wentzel (Megan) of Las Cruces, NM., John Slentz (Angie) of Butler, IN., Rachel Slentz of Mishawaka, IN., Matthew Slentz of Kiel, WI., Peter Wentzel of Falls Church, VA., Katya Wentzel of Falls Church, VA., Nicholas Wentzel of Falls Church, VA., Nicole Stopa (J. Mardambek) of Anchorage, AK., Natasha Stopa of Madison, WI., Franciszka Stopa of Socorro, NM., Alex Wentzel of Fishers, IN., Ryan Wentzel of Fishers, IN. and Derek Wentzel of Fishers, IN., great grandchildren, Timothy Morton of Fulton, MO., Pearl Slentz and Rowan Tinker, both of Butler, IN., sisters-in-law, Donna Smith of Rochester and Nancy Wentzel, of Plymouth, and also several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Marian Miller and Maxine Smith and brothers, Phillip Smith and Robert Smith.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2016 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel with Pastor Steve Miller officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2016 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Bruce Lake Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kewanna Library, Pleasant Hill UMC and/or Salvation Army.
