Cass County Reading Railroad is excited to announce it has received a grant for $3,000.00 from NIPSCO to benefit the Begindergarten™program. This grant will support the 6-week school readiness program to take place from June 11th- July 20th at Fairview Elementary School. Begindergarten™ is a program that works on the 7 basic skills linked to being successful in kindergarten. All students who attend Kindergarten Round Up are given assessments to determine their eligibility for the program, qualified students are then invited to attend 90 hours of school readiness where transportation, breakfast, and lunch are provided, free of charge to families. By helping these students gain the skills needed to succeed, entire classrooms will be able to progress with less interruptions.
“The funding received from NIPSCO is very necessary to run the Begindergarten™ program,” says Chris Armstrong, executive director of United Way of Cass County. “This is vital to the children in our community who are not quite ready to enter Kindergarten. We want all children to have a great start to their educational career and when they all enter Kindergarten on a much more level playing field, it gives them a fighting chance. The funding will help offset the costs of supplies, transportation & activities for the children. With the help of community partners, such as NIPSCO, we are able to continue this valuable program.”
