The Cass County Community Foundation is excited to announce a new $1 for $1 match opportunity to support critically needed repairs at the Cass County Carousel. After months of studying options and trying to find alternative solutions, the Carousel board of directors is facing an exceptionally large expense to replace the current HVAC and humidifier system. The system is vital in maintaining the proper temperature and humidity levels to help preserve the wooden Carousel and the irreplaceable hand carved animals. The CCCF match period will run from May 1st through May 31st, 2024, and is provided by funds from Lilly Endowment Inc. as part of the GIFT Phase VIII initiative.
The Carousel is one of only three in the country and is a one-hundred-plus-year-old hand-carved masterpiece. Carousel Board President, Dan Williams said, “Preserving this treasure for the future is not only our passion, but our responsibility. We ask that you please consider making a generous gift to the Carousel and help us meet our fundraiser goal of $70,000. ”
CCCF President Deanna Crispen said, “Our board of directors recognizes the tremendous need to ensure that the Carousel is protected and maintained for generations to come. When the opportunity was presented to us to use a portion of the Phase VIII dollars for a community project, the urgency of these repairs came to the top of the list. We hope the community will reach deep and help us help the Carousel board preserve this significant community landmark.”
The Carousel will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 1-4 p.m. for the public to visit, ride, and meet the staff and volunteers.
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Cass County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 441, Logansport, IN 46947 from now through May 31st to receive the match. Checks should be made payable to CCCF with “Carousel” in the memo line.
