Memorial Center volunteer named “Citizen of the Week”

A Logansport woman who stepped up to help beautify Memorial Center is the recipient of a weekly Logansport honor.

Shelly Morris lives only blocks from the center at Seventh and East Market streets. She volunteered to be part of a beautification contest for the center earlier this year, but when a scheduling conflict arose, she asked if she could maintain and water red geraniums planted at the center this spring. Geraniums now line the steps of the center on Market and Seventh and in areas around the building.

“It’s not exactly been a cool summer to take on this task, but Shelly has and she’s made the center look that much more inviting by volunteering her time,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said Monday. “Many people have asked who the center’s mystery gardener is, and I think it’s time she takes a bow for her efforts. We need more people like Shelly who give back unselfishly to the city through their volunteer work.”

The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport natives or residents who contribute to the community or are recognized for their achievements. Recipients received a certificate of appreciation from the city and a $20 gift certificate.
