It’s back to school week in Logansport, but a teacher who worked to improve the city during the summer break is a recipient of a special city honor recognizing her work.

Amy Werner and her students contributed public art that colorfully adorns Packard & Associates Insurance on East Market Street. Mayor Dave Kitchell says the work brings vibrance to Heritage Park and the Farmers Market and showcases the talents of young people.

“We’re indeed fortunate that Amy and her students contributed this kind of time and effort to beautify downtown,” Kitchell said. “It again reflects the fabric of our community, the talents our young people have and the commitment and community spirit of our adults and young people who have pride in our city.”

The Citizen of the Week is a city program honoring Logansport natives or former residents who have made contributions to the city. Werner will receive a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office.
