Logansport Re-Imagined Week is Sept. 22-29, 2018

Last Updated on September 28, 2018 by cassnetwork

Logansport residents have compiled a list of more than 120 things to do during the first-ever Logansport Re-Imagined Week Sept. 22-29, 2018.

Logansport Re-Imagined Week is a chance for all of us to explore our community, showcase the things that make Logansport uniquely better and dream about what could be.

Logansport Re-Imagined is the capstone for Logansport’s Hometown Collaboration Initiative (HCI). Five neighborhood teams, whose boundaries are the same as Logansport’s five city council wards, have focused on what it would look like if everyone in Logansport worked together to create and promote a community where they are proud to live, work and play.

In addition to annual events like Household Hazardous Waste Day and the Airport Fly-in/Drive-in that were already scheduled during that timeframe, the neighborhood teams have worked with local businesses and organizations to schedule additional events like open houses and special deals.

One of the goals is to showcase the community’s existing assets.

“Knowing your neighbors is one of the topics that came up quite often in conversations the HCI team had with Logansport residents,” said Michelle Dials, co-chair of HCI/Logansport Re-Imagined’s coordinating team. “As we talked, it became clear that there is a need for people to reconnect with what’s in their neighborhoods as well.”

Some of the suggested activities during Logansport Re-Imagined Week are things people can do anytime, on their own: walk around your block, sweep your sidewalks, visit a park, try a new restaurant, stop in a store you’ve never visited before.

Museums in Logansport, including the Longcliff Museum at the Logansport State Hospital, the Cole Clothing Museum, the Ridlen Museum of Political Communication and the log cabin at the Cass County Historical Society will be open special hours during the week. Several businesses will also offer special deals throughout the week.

There are also special events like Fiberglass Freaks’ 15th anniversary Bat Con Sept. 22 and 23, which will showcase one of Logansport’s unique industries – a company that produces licensed replicas of the Batmobile.

The Logansport Planning Department is working with high school students from the My Community My Vision (MCMV) project and the Logansport Farmer’s Market to “re-imagine” the space at 4th and Market on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 29.

The Logansport Fire Department will also be working with the American Red Cross to install smoke detectors for those who need them on Sept. 27 and 28. You can request a free smoke detector or volunteer to help install them at http://bit.ly/LRSDC18. Please register by Wednesday, Sept. 25 for planning purposes.

Intersection Coffee Shop at 301 E. Linden is serving as “Logansport Re-Imagined” headquarters for the week. Limited quantities of Logansport Re-Imagined t-shirts will also be available for purchase, with proceeds going to the Logansport HCI Fund through the Cass County Community Foundation, to be used for future neighborhood projects.

Flyers listing activities and events are being sent home with students in Logansport’s K-6 schools. Copies are also available at Intersection Coffee Shop. In addition, the complete list can be found online at logansportreimagined.com/lriweek.

“I’m excited for Logansport Re-Imagined Week because it will give all of us – whether we’ve lived in this city our whole lives or are a recent transplant – an opportunity to see our community with new and fresh eyes and find again the reasons we each love Logansport,” said Zach Szmara, co-chair of Logansport Re-Imagined’s coordinating team.
