Riendeau honored for Habitat service

A former local resident who was a driving force behind a faith-based housing initiative has been named Logansport’s Citizen of the Week.

Alan Riendeau and his wife, Gina, recently relocated to West Lafayette in their retirement. But they have spent most of their adult years in Logansport where Alan, a veteran, was active with Habitat for Humanity in its formative years in Logansport.

“Alan came back to Logansport to witness the transfer of keys to a house on Tacoma Avenue that is the latest achievement for Habitat and its ministry in Logansport,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “We’re fortunate to have people like Alan who not only have served their country for many years in the military, but serve their community in volunteer capacities. His work with Habitat is a legacy some Logansport families can appreciate every day.”

The mayor said he is hopeful that more local organizations and volunteers will support Habitat, which improves local housing and housing opportunities without any tax-supported assistance.

Riendeau will receive a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office. The Citizen of the Week program recognizes Logansport natives, current and former residents for their contributions.
