Miles of sidewalk and trails have led to one of the state’s highest rankings by Walk Score, according to information released by the state of Indiana.

Of the 51 largest cities in the state, Logansport ranked second and West Lafayette ranked third. East Chicago finished first.

“One of the best characteristics of neighborhoods is the ability to offer safe, continuous sidewalks and nearby trails,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “The city’s commitment to the 50/50 matching sidewalk installation program and one of the best trail systems in the state gives us a feature that is envied by many communities. We appreciate the commitment and investment property owners have made in taking advantage of this program, and this is one of the dividends.”

Kitchell said the commitment by the Fincher Administration to include sidewalks from the east to west city limits is among the reasons why the city’s score ranks high.

Logansport ranks as the 46th largest Indiana city with a population of over 18,300 – up from 17,700 four years ago.

The worst cities were Granger and Indianapolis suburban communities Westfield and Noblesville.
