She won state and national championships as a Logansport resident and went on to perform collegiately at Purdue University.

Angie Gifford English, whose parents still reside in Logansport, has been named Logansport’s Citizen of the Week.

“Logansport has produced many great twirlers, many of whom started out as children in the Logan Lads and Lassies and marched in numerous parades,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today in making the announcement. “Angie was one of the greatest our city has ever produced and her twirling career at Purdue from 1988 to 1990 put an exclamation point on her twirling career.”

English now resides in Milan, Mich., where her husband is an associate warden of a correctional facility. She enjoys spending time with the couple’s two grandchildren.

She will receive a $20 gift certificate and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office. The program recognizes Logansport natives, current and former residents and is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office.
