She opened a shop 44 years ago in Logansport and she’s been a fixture in the 500 block of East Broadway ever since.

Nikki Reid, owner of The Nest, says she saw the potential for a long-term presence when she first opened a shop at 524 E. Broadway. About nine years later, she purchased her current building and has become a downtown destination for those looking for gifts.

Mayor Dave Kitchell recognized her today as the Citizen of the Week for her commitment to downtown.

“Nikki has given back to downtown as a six-year member of the Logan’s Landing and leaves that post this week,” Kitchell said. “Through her efforts and many like her, downtown has endured and is on the verge of even more great things. The legion of downtown supporters is why we placed in the top 10 finalist round of America’s Main Street Contest.”

“I’ve seen a lot of things and I’m still excited about Logansport,” Reid said.

The Nest employs one other full-time employee.

Reid is the mother of two grown children and six grandchildren.

She is a 1965 Logansport High School graduate and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.

She will receive a $20 gift certificate and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office.

The program recognizes Logansport natives, current and former residents and is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office.
