Rep. Manning selected for international government leadership program

STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Ethan Manning (R-Denver) was recently chosen to participate in the Council of State Governments’ Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development.
The annual training program assists promising, new state legislators cultivate skills such as conflict resolution and negotiation. Manning will meet with 37 lawmakers from 10 Midwest states and four Canadian provinces August 9-13 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
“Throughout the country, we are seeing more policy responsibilities shifted away from the federal level and toward the states,” Manning said. “To meet the demands of Indiana and the nation’s changing needs, it is vital to have a firm understanding of how policies can impact education and employment opportunities, local economies, the environment and more.”
During the program, Manning will participate in policy sessions on issues such as education, corrections, health care and economic development, as well as seminars on media relations, priority management and consensus building.
The Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development was founded in 1995. The Council of State Governments is a national, nonpartisan organization assisting and advancing state government through research assistance, professional development opportunities, interstate consulting services and educational networking opportunities.
