Cass County Community Foundation sponsoring robotics teams at the Cass County 4-H Fair

The Cass County Community Foundation is excited to announce the 2019 matching opportunity at the Cass County 4-H Fair. For the third year, the Foundation will feature robotics teams from all four local school systems and will offer the opportunity to earn up to $500 in match money during the fair.

CCCF will have donation containers for Caston, Lewis Cass, Logansport and Pioneer robotics teams and will match those donations up to a total of $500 per school for the week. Fairgoers can stop by the CCCF booth in Merchants Building #1 and “cast their vote” for their favorite school by placing a donation of any size in that school’s container. Donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to the school’s $500 total.

Visitors sixteen and older to the CCCF booth may sign up for a nightly door prize drawing for a Stinger drone. The drone is complete with batteries, charger, HD camera, and carrying case. Fairgoers will also have a chance to drive the robots in a real “skills challenge” each night. Scores will be updated each evening on the leaderboard with a nightly winner receiving a local merchant gift card.

Demonstrations by each school’s teams will be offered on Monday through Thursday evening at the entrance to Merchants Building #1. The teams will bring their equipment and offer demonstrations from 5:30-9 p.m. as follows:

Monday, July 8: Logansport
Tuesday, July 9: Caston
Wednesday, July 10: Pioneer
Thursday, July 11: Lewis Cass

CCCF President & CEO, Deanna Crispen said, “We are so proud and excited to continue our support of these young people and the county’s robotics efforts. These teams are providing critical training and educational opportunities for students to learn about more than the practical applications. Students learn teambuilding, strategy, communications, programming, and problem solving while building and competing.”

Crispen shared, “Last year Cass County had teams qualify and win awards at the state, national and world championships. This success does not happen without community support and dedicated coaches, mentor, and volunteers. But, as the success has grown, so has the number of students who wish to participate on robotics teams. We can help provide funding but without more coaches, mentors, and volunteers, the programs cannot grow. For example, last year one of our middle schools had 60 students vying for the 25 spots available on teams. This is unacceptable for our students and we need your help. We hope our involvement with the schools at the 4H Fair will shine the spotlight on these student teams and encourage others to get involved and volunteer. The best part is you do not have to be an engineer or scientist to volunteer; there are roles for anyone who has the time and interest to help. Please stop by our booth and find out how you can become involved!”

Crispen noted that all contributions are tax deductible and anyone who makes a donation by check will receive a written receipt of their donation.
