On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon mission, a local man who has had his eyes on the stars for decades is recognized with a special city honor.
Forrest Hamilton, whose telescope expertise is unparalleled in Cass County, is this week’s Logansport Citizen of the Week. Hamilton has shared his passion for the stars with generations of Logansport area residents in presentations at France Park and in Logansport.
“Even a half century after Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, that one moment spoke to not just our engineering and science feats as Americans, but our curiosity for discovery in the heavens and beyond,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said Friday. “Forrest has been a tour guide for those interested in space and astronomy and his background with the Hubble Telescope is a testimony to the importance of science and STEM education in our schools. The next Neil Armstrong who sets foot on Mars could come from Logansport.”
Hamilton will receive a certificate from the Mayor’s Office and a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant.
The Citizen of the Week program is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport residents, natives and former residents for their contributions.
