A Logansport teacher who is known for a beautiful voice and has taught scores of students to appreciate music is this week’s recipient of a special city honor.

Jane Hornung, a White County native, has spent most of her life in Logansport. For many years, she was actively involved in Logansport Civic Players, appearing in lead roles in musicals and performing hours of music for the community’s enjoyment.

“In Jane, we have a music educator who shared her gifts with the community, and encouraged and directed amateur performances for productions and festivals that supported our arts community,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said in naming her Citizen of the Week. “We’re fortunate to have Jane and people like her in the community who are so dedicated to music and the promotion of music performance in Logansport. It’s something not many people can do, and much of it she’s done out of her passion for music.”

Hornung will receive a $20 gift certificate from the Mayor’s Office. The Citizen of the Week is sponsored by the city and recognizes local residents, natives and former residents for their contributions to the community.
