Another effort to reduce the number of unsafe structures in Logansport may be approved this week.
The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety Wednesday received only one bid for the demolition of six structures designated for the Blight Elimination Program. The bid from Merritt & Son of Kokomo was taken under advisement. If a contract is awarded at the board’s meeting Wednesday, it will mean the demolition of properties at these locations:
*1134 High St.
*913 W. Miami Ave.
*204 W. Ottawa St.
*610 W. Market St.
*613 W. Broadway
*1124 Smith St.
“In some cases, these are buildings that were damaged by fire,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “We’re looking forward to improving these neighborhoods and in some cases making more land available for new home construction. Our community needs housing and we continue to look for opportunities to expand and improve our housing inventory for a real estate market that has increased demand.”
Thirty properties in the previous round of the Blight Elimination Program are currently being redeveloped for new single-family homes through the ReVere Homes program.
