Update on July 4, 2019 incident at France Park

Logansport, IN – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a water recovery incident that occurred at France Park on July 4, 2019. At approximately 5:15 pm, first responders were dispatched to the area of France Park for a man that had been pulled from the water.
Witnesses stated that they observed the male run into the water from the beach, swim a short distance and then disappear under water. Multiple bystanders entered the water in search of the man and were able to locate him and pull him to shore. Once on land, bystanders performed CPR until EMS arrived on scene.
The male was then transported via ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital where he was then flown to Park View Regional Hospital via Samaritan helicopter where he was listed in critical condition.
Conservation Officers have identified the victim as Ignacio Sanchez Juares, 48, of Francisville, IN.
Juares was pronounced dead last night shortly after 10:30 p.m. at Park View Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne. It is still unknown why Juares disappeared underwater and did not resurface.
A toxicology report is scheduled.
