Hotel study funding moving forward in Logansport

For the first time, the City of Logansport appears headed to funding a study to attract more lodging in the community.
Monday, the City Council Finance Committee agreed to advance a proposal to fund a hotel study. The recommendation came from City/County Planner Arin Shaver and is expected to be considered at the August city council meeting Monday.
Mayor Dave Kitchell said developers who are already considering additional hotels for the community are receptive to the study.
“This is an opportunity for us to potentially attract more people traveling through Indiana to come through our city and see what we’re all about, and it would add value-added dollars to our economy,” he said. “Downtown, the east end and the Hoosier Heartland Corridor at 18th Street and U.S. 35 are all prime areas under consideration. Given our proximity to Indianapolis, South Bend and West Lafayette and the number of sporting events in those cities in particular, the demand is there.”
Logansport’s most recent new hotel project was the Holiday Inn Express, the city’s largest hotel.
