Jensen named Logansport Citizen of the Week

While some people can describe their day at work as a “zoo,” a Logansport native can say it with meaning.

Leah Rayl Jensen, now with the Memphis Zoo, grew up around livestock in Cass County 4-H. But she didn’t grow up with animals like those she now sees daily.

The former member of the Eel Busy Beavers 4-H Club relocated to Hernando, Miss., two years ago, she became chief operations officer of the zoo, which was recently voted one of the top 10 zoos in the nation.

“Leah is a great example of someone who maybe didn’t envision the career she has now when she was graduating from Logansport High School in 2000, but career paths take interesting turns and twists,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today in naming her Logansport’s Citizen of the Week. “Some people look at careers like working for a zoo and think that can’t happen for someone from a small city in northern Indiana, but they can and do. Leah is a living example.”

While growing up in Logansport, she was a four-year member of the soccer and softball teams before she went on to play soccer at Goshen College, where she received her psychology degree. After obtaining her human resources certification, she went on to work for Logansport Memorial Hospital, Target, Kohl’s and Vera Bradley in Fort Wayne.

Leah will receive a $20 gift certificate from the city and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office.

The Citizen of the Week program is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes Logansport residents, natives or former residents.
