A Logansport woman who spent her teaching career in the city and has been a volunteer for various organizations was recognized with a city honor Saturday evening.

Kathy Ditmire was named Citizen of the Week at her 80th birthday celebration.

After graduating from Ball State University and marrying the late Joe Ditmire, she taught at Longfellow, Daniel Webster and Landis elementary schools. She is a familiar face at the Mary Dykeman Guild Gift Shop at Logansport Memorial Hospital and at Kroeger Funeral Home where she is employed part-time. She has been an active member of the Logansport Art Association and the former St. Bridget Catholic Church. She is a supporter of numerous local causes.

“Kathy is one of the consummate volunteers we have in Logansport,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “She is selfless in her desire and concern, and Logansport is a better community because of her.”

She will receive a $20 gift certificate to a local restaurant and a certificate from the Mayor’s Office.

The Citizen of the Week program is sponsored by the Mayor’s Office and recognizes residents, natives and former residents.
