For the first time, city officials have turned to a tool that may enable the community to land more lodging.
Monday night, the Logansport City Council voted 6-1 to approve funding for a hotel study. The study will be performed in the coming months and will identify the potential for additional hotel rooms in various areas of the city, particularly the east end.
Mayor Dave Kitchell says the redevelopment of the Logansport Mall property has been identified as an area for a new hotel. He confirmed there is interest from investors in building one or more hotels in the community based on current occupancy rates.
“We’re confident that Logansport’s location in the heart of north central Indiana offers a strategic point for the hospitality industry to place nationally known hotel names in our locale,” Kitchell said. “This study is a helpful step in bolstering efforts by hoteliers to build in our community. It’s a proactive thing to do.”
The city’s existing lodging includes Holiday Inn, Super 8, Quality Inn and the Manor Motel.
