For the fourth consecutive year, Logansport has been listed among the state’s top 25 safest places to live in Indiana.

Backgroundchecks.org has ranked Logansport 21st in Indiana, just behind Merrillville. West Lafayette and Warsaw were the only cities within two counties of Cass to rank ahead of Logansport. Among Logansport’s six peer cities closest in size, only Shelbyville ranked higher at No. 2. Seymour was the only other peer city to make the rankings, checking in at No. 25.

While Logansport may not win the North Central Conference All-Sports Trophy, it can lay claim to being the safest city in the 10-team conference. Marion made the list at 26th followed by Lafayette (31st), Muncie (33rd), Anderson (37th), Kokomo (40th) and Indianapolis (43rd). Richmond was not ranked.

“This is continued good news for us, and the kind of ranking that matters to the public when they’re looking for a safe, clean and affordable place to live,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said. “Through the support of our police department and city council, we’ve been able to make real strides in community policing with take-home police cars, bike patrols and trail cameras. We hope to move up in these rankings next year.”

The city also has been ranked by Backgroundchecks.org and in other public safety rankings as high as 10th in the state.
