Update on September 17, 2019 vehicle pursuit in Cass County

On Sept. 17, the Cass County Drug Task Force was conducting an investigation which resulted in a 15-minute vehicle pursuit that traveled approximately 18 miles throughout Cass County.

At the request of the Drug Task Force, Deputy Scott Turney with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department attempted a traffic stop on a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban near the entrance to Logansport Golf Club on Country Club Road in Cass County.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop, leading the Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Task Force on a pursuit through numerous county roads leading to Walton, Indiana. The pursuit then proceeded north on US 35.

Logansport patrolman Jason Shidler deployed stop sticks near the intersection of US 35 and CR 650 S but the suspect vehicle evaded the stop sticks.

The pursuit continued north on US 35. During the course of the pursuit, stop sticks were attempted three times, all of which were unsuccessful.

Near the intersection of US 35 and CR 400 E where the highway splits into two lanes, the suspect vehicle traveled north in the southbound lane of travel toward oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed, continuing to evade law enforcement. The suspect vehicle then crossed back over the highway median into the correct lane of travel near 18th St. and US 35/US 24 bypass.

The vehicle pursuit ended west of 18th Street, near Ivy Tech.

The male driver, identified as Scott A. Cripe, fled on foot across an open field and was apprehended. The passenger, Audrey Planck, was apprehended from the vehicle.

Cripe was flown from the scene with non-life-threatening injuries to a hospital in Indianapolis. Planck was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Neither subject was arrested at the scene due to medical conditions, but have numerous charges pending to include narcotic charges. The investigation is still ongoing.

Assisting agencies include the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Logansport Police Department, Indiana State Police, Galveston Police Department, Prompt Ambulance and Lutheran Air. The Indiana State Police are investigating the vehicle crash.

Based on this investigation, additional arrests are anticipated. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods to the Loganpsort Police Department or the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
