KOKOMO, Ind. — Students, parents, and educators interested in learning more about high-demand, high-wage jobs in the Kokomo area are invited to attend an open house at Button Motors, 1220 E. Boulevard, Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The event will focus on how training opportunities through Ivy Tech Community College can prepare students for automotive technology jobs that pay a median salary of more than $40,000 a year, with a potential to go to more than $100,000. It will begin at 6 p.m. at the dealership and will include a tour of the Button Motors service center.

During the open house, Button team members will be available to give a first-hand look at their jobs and to answer questions on their experiences in the automotive industry. Ivy Tech faculty and staff will share information about the educational pathways that can take a student from high school through an associate degree and beyond. Participants will be able to register for a drawing for door prizes. Refreshments will include hot dogs, popcorn, and soft drinks.

The goal of the open house is to raise awareness of the opportunities in the field – and the career pathways that exist in high schools and career centers working with Ivy Tech – to start building a pipeline of potential automotive technicians to fill a nationwide shortage of qualified employees.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by Friday, Oct. 18, to Susan Turrill at Ivy Tech by phone at 765-252-5497 or by email at sturrill@ivytech.edu . She is also available to answer questions.
