ORIGINAL POST:

The City of Logansport plans to apply for the Main Street Revitalization Program (MSRP), offered through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) and funded through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

The owners of eight downtown properties who expressed interest in the program have been working with Synthesis, an architectural firm, on proposed renovations of their façades, or the parts of their buildings that face the street.

The project has a total cost of $995,650, and the city is applying to receive the maximum grant allocation of $600,000. The remaining totals will come from the building owners ($199,130), the Logansport City Council ($90.760), the Logansport Redevelopment Commission ($90,760) and Logan’s Landing ($15,000). The Cass County Community Foundation also contributed $20,000 toward the State Theatre renovation project.

More than 30 people attended a public hearing to learn more about the project on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019.

Here is more info about each of the properties and their proposed projects:

The eight properties where facade improvement projects are proposed as part of Logansport’s 2019 Main Street Revitalization Program proposal are all located in National Historic Districts. One is in the Point Historic District and rest are in the Courthouse Historic District. Photo provided.
Some of the proposed improvements to Legacy Outfitters and Black Dog Coffee include a black anodized aluminum storefront with mullion pattern, similar to the 1901 storefront, new lighting and repointing of masonry.
Some of the proposed improvements at La Fiesta include removal of the mansard roof-style awning and the metal and vinyl siding, an anodized aluminum storefront, a metal awning and a fabric awning.
Some of the proposed improvements at the former Richardson’s Cleaners building include an anodized aluminum storefront, repointing of brick pilasters, new paint and re-roofing of the bay window.
Some of the proposed improvements at The Gray Mill and Graybeal’s Carpet Plus include a new black anodized storefront and doors, new paint, new windows and a new limestone parapet cap.
Some of the proposed improvements at Walters Precision Collision Repair include removing the mansard roof-style awning, repointing masonry, anodized aluminum storefront and windows.
Some of the proposed improvements to The Pear Tree Gallery and Judy’s Good Life Emporium include removal of metal panels, repointing the masonry underneath the panels, and new wood cladding with stenciled and painted filigree patterning.
Some of the proposed improvements at the State Theatre include new panels under the marquee, new energy efficient aluminum storefront to match the pattern of the original storefront, new doors to match the 1940’s entry doors, a new ticket booth to match the 1940’s ticket booth configuration and new neon lights to match the 1940’s marquee lighting details.

The grant is very competitive and cities who are selected often have to apply more than once. The application is due on Nov. 22 and notification of recipients is expected early in 2020.
