Update on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 accident on CR 1000 E

On Friday November 15, 2019, at approximately 3:09 p.m., Cass County (IN) Central Dispatch received a call of a single vehicle crash north of County Road 1225 South on County Road 1000 East.

Sergeant Pat Zeider and Deputy David Wells responded to the crash along with Galveston Fire,Galveston Police,and Phoenix Ambulance Service.

Initial scene assessment found a single vehicle traveled off the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire. Preliminary investigation by Deputy David Wells found that Stacie Keith, 52, of Peru, IN, had been driving a 2007 Chevrolet HHR southbound on County Road 1000 East when she drove off of the east side of the roadway and struck a tree. The Chevrolet caught fire after the crash. A passing motorist stopped to attempt to rescue the driver from the fire but was unable to assist. The Galveston Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the vehicle fire.

Cass County Coroner Randy Rozzi, responded to the scene to conduct a death investigation.

The family has been notified.

Assisting at the crash scene were Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder, Detective Sergeant Dale Campbell and Galveston Deputy Marshal Daryl Lutz.
