Holiday Updates for 2019

Here are some updates on holiday-related closings and activities for the week of Dec. 30, 2019.

The Cass County Government Building (Courthouse) will be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

Republic Services will be operating the normal schedule on Monday, Dec. 30 and will start trash pickup an hour early on Tuesday, Dec. 31.  No trash & recycling pick up in Logansport on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Due to the New Year’s Day holiday, the Wednesday routes will be picked up on Thursday, Thursday routes on Friday, Friday routes on Saturday. LMU and the City of Logansport offices will be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in observance of the New Year’s holiday.

Due to the Christmas holiday the Logansport Board of Works and Public Safety will not meet on Dec. 25. The last 2019 meeting for the Board of Works and Public Safety will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. on the third floor of City Hall in the City Council Chambers.

Cass Transit and the Senior Center will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31 and Wednesday, January 1. The City Bus will not be running on those days.

The Logansport Library will be closed Wednesday, January 1.

The Walton Library will be closed Wednesday, January 1.

The Royal Center Boone Township Library will be closed January 1. Call for hours on December 31.

The USPS will be closed in observance of New Year’s Day on Wednesday, January 1, and there will be no mail delivery.

All BMV branches and Central Office will be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in observance of the New Years Day holiday. Normal hours will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2020. myBMV.com and all BMV Connect kiosks will be unavailable from 7:30 PM EST on December 31, 2019 to 5:00 PM EST on January 1, 2020 for scheduled maintenance.

SCHOOLS:

Ivy Tech Community College is closed for winter recess from Wednesday, December 25, 2019, through Wednesday, January 1, 2020. All Ivy Tech locations will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2020. The Ivy Tech Community College call center will remain open during the winter recess. For additional information and assistance during the official Ivy Tech Community College closure, call 888-IVY-LINE (888-489-5463), which is available daily from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. ET.

Indiana University Kokomo will close for the holidays at 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 24. All offices will remain closed until 8 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020. Classes will resume at 8 a.m. Monday, January 13. The library will be closed Saturday, December 21, and Sunday December 22, and then open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, December 23, and Tuesday, December 24. It will then be closed until 8 a.m. Thursday, January 2. Online and electronic resources are available when the library is closed, at http://iuk.edu/library. The campus bookstore will close at 3 p.m. Monday, December 23, and reopen at 9 a.m. Thursday, January 2. Students may order books from the bookstore’s website, iukbookstore.com, at any time. Books may be shipped to the student’s home or picked up at the store on the first day of classes.

The Cougar Country Café will close at 1 p.m. Friday, December 20, and remain closed until Monday, January 13. The Ground Up Café will close at 2 p.m. Friday, December 20, and re-open at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 8. Hours for January 8, 9, and 10 will 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with regular hours resuming January 13.

The Downtown Art Gallery’s current exhibition closes at 5:30 p.m. Friday, December 20. The next show opens Friday, January 3.

The Cole Fitness Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, December 23, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 24. It will then be closed until 7 a.m. Thursday, January 2. It will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. January 1 to January 11, with weekend hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., before returning to regular hours on Monday, January 13.

DATES TO REMEMBER:

The Winter Solstice occurs on Dec. 21.

Hanukkah will begin the evening of Sunday, Dec. 22 and end the evening of Monday, Dec. 30.

Christmas Eve is Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Christmas Day is Wednesday, Dec. 25.

Kwanzaa is celebrated from Thursday, Dec. 26 to Wednesday, January 1.

New Year’s Eve is Tuesday, Dec. 31 and New Year’s Day is Wednesday, January 1.

Three Kings’ Day, or Epiphany, is Monday, Jan. 6.
