One arrested following robbery

On Dec. 17, 2019, the Logansport Police Department was dispatched to the Speedway Gas Station located at 2875 E. Market St. in reference to an armed robbery at approximately 4:30 a.m.

Upon arrival to the scene it was reported that an individual came inside the store and displayed a hand gun. The person departed the gas station with an undisclosed amount of cash along with two packs of cigarettes and a pop. The clerk at the station was not injured during the incident. The suspect was then believed to have stolen a vehicle from the 2700 block of George St.

Upon further investigation, the suspect was identified and it was discovered that he was currently at 325 12th St. in Logansport. The suspect was identified as Joseph D. Knight, 42. Officers were able to establish a perimeter around the residence and were able to secure a search warrant for the residence. The Logansport Police Department SWAT team was activated and arrived at the scene to execute the search warrant.

Upon entry of the SWAT team, it was discovered that Knight was hiding in the attic area of the residence. Initial attempts to get him to surrender himself failed. Logansport SWAT officers utilized the Logansport Fire Department’s ladder truck to access the attic area of the residence and make contact with Knight. He then surrendered himself to the custody of the Logansport SWAT Team at approximately 11:48 a.m.

Knight was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital to be medically-cleared prior to being transported to the Cass County Jail. He was initially charged with Robbery (level 3 felony), auto theft (level 6 felony), resisting law enforcement (A misdemeanor) and possession of a syringe (level 6 felony).

Assisting agencies were the Logansport Fire Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Prompt Ambulance, Logansport Muncipal Utilities, Indiana State Police and Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
