Logansport Parks and Recreation Board

When Mayor Martin asked me if I would be interested in serving on the Parks Board, I told him “Absolutely!” I have had so much of my life being involved with the parks in Logansport due to baseball and other sports. I played Little League baseball on Crain Field at Fairview Park, and I have managed, coached, and umpired baseball on Crain and Steinman Fields for the past fifty years. I also served as President of the Cal Ripken League from 2006 to 2008. I played Babe Ruth League baseball at RiversidePark. That’s right, Riverside Park, because back when I was a teenager, the Babe Ruth League games were played there. I also played in the Slow Pitch Softball League as a young adult at Riverside Park.My wife and I live across the street from Muehlhausen Park, the former Tower Park, where we raised our children who played T-Ball, Minor League baseball, and swam at the city pool. We now have grandchildren who are using the Splash Pads!

It is important for me to see the upkeep and tradition of the parks in Logansport remain as nice and functional as they have been over the last 75 years and continue to make improvements when needed. I have been a lifelong resident of Logansport, and remember as a kid going to Riverside and Tower Parks. The parks were always full of kids playing games. I can remember Jefferson Street Park as a grade school football player participating in flag football games. We have some very beautiful parks in the city of Logansport. The three or four that are really mainstays are Riverside, Spencer, Fairview and Tower (now known as Muehlhausen Park). Those are big assets to the community and we need to do everything we can to continue to improve them and continue to make them assets for the community. We should add more to our parks system so that more and more people want to use what we have. I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve on the parks board.

Logansport Redevelopment Commission

Having grown up in Logansport and going away to college, I wanted to come back to the place and people that raised me so that I could be here for the next several generations of young people that grow up here, hopefully providing opportunities and support in the same ways that others provided for me. I worked as a coach for years, and now with Security Federal Savings Bank, which allows me to be involved and supports giving back to the community in many different capacities.I’m accepting this appointment in order to provide support to our community wherever possible. I love our community and look forward to working in with others to continue its growth.
