Last Updated on February 16, 2020 by News release from Cass County Sheriff's Department

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office recently received a delivery of a new security device for the Cass County Jail.

The Tek84 Intercept body scanner was delivered near the end of 2019. The device was placed in service on January 21, 2020, after installation, inspection and training for the users.

The Tek84 body scanner is a self-contained contraband and weapon detection system. The machine is utilized to scan all incoming prisoners for contraband and weapons to keep prohibited items out of the jail.

The first significant find with the new system was in the evening of Feb. 12. A Logansport police officer arrested a male on various charges and transported him to the Cass County Jail for incarceration. During processing at the Cass County Jail, the staff completed a body scan on the male. The scan showed the male had swallowed two small baggies containing narcotics. The male admitted to recently swallowing the items and was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

“This is a valuable tool to keep our facility drug- and weapon-free,” stated Sheriff Ed Schroder. “The safety and security of the visitors, staff and inmates are of paramount importance to me. This technology is a tool to assist the staff in those goals.”
