Here are a few things we thought you might want to know for Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, which is the 182nd anniversary of Logansport’s incorporation as a city!

???? PRESIDENTS’ DAY: Many people refer to today as Presidents’ Day, but this holiday is designated as “Washington’s Birthday” in the U.S. Code. Many banks are closed today and there is also no mail delivery by the U.S. Postal Service. Today is also a holiday for most area K-12 schools.

????DAM REMOVAL: There will be a public meeting concerning the proposed removal of the Eel River dams near Riverside Park on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 at 6 p.m. in the LMU Board Room, located on the third floor of the Logansport City Building. Get more info here.

???? TAX TIME: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, offered by United Way of Cass County  in partnership with Area Five Agency on Aging and Community Services and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), is for households earning $60,000 or less. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation to qualified households in Cass County. More details here.

???? CENSUS 2020: Between March 12 and March 20, invitations to participate in the 2020 Census will start arriving in households across the country. Statistics from the census are used in distributing hundreds of billions of dollars in funding for school lunches, hospitals, roads and much more. Your response will impact communities for the next decade. More info here.

???? SYSTEM OF CARE: The Cass County System of Care meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19 from 5:30 –7 p.m. at Ivy Tech Community College, Logansport, Indiana. The Cass County System of Care was established in 2019 to address the growing substance use disorder issue in Cass County. Collectively, community stakeholders are working to develop a shared framework and solution for making a difference in our community and to build upon the work that has already taken place. Initiatives and activities are focused on prevention, treatment and recovery. More info here.

✏️ WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK: We try to do a survey a couple of times a year, and we use the results to guide decisions about the services we offer through Cass County Communication Network, and in our work in the community. Share your thoughts here.
