On Thursday, Feb. 6 at approximately 4:50 a.m., Cass County Central Dispatch was notified of a two-vehicle crash near County Road 600 West on US 35. Several deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Units from Royal Center Fire, Logansport Fire and Phoenix Ambulance Service also responded to the crash. Initial scene assessment found a passenger car and pickup truck had collided.

Preliminary investigation by Deputy Nick Boyer found that Jan Byers, 56, of Royal Center, IN, had been driving a 2005 Cadillac southbound on US 35 when she drove left of center. The passenger car was struck by a pickup that was being driven northbound on US 35 by Ruben Roque of Logansport. A medical helicopter was requested at the scene by medical personnel but unable to assist because of weather conditions. Byers was transported by Phoenix Ambulance to a hospital in Lafayette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene with substantial front-end damage. The roadway was closed for approximately one hour for investigation and crash cleanup.

The crash is still under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
