The Logansport Street Department wanted to share some information pertaining to street sweeping. The Street Sweeper goes out and begins the process of spring clean-up as soon as the weather permits each spring. This is normally in March or April when temperatures rise. The sweeper cannot run when the temperature is below freezing because the water lines which help in collecting the sand will freeze and cause damage to the engine, resulting in the sweeper becoming out of service while it is repaired.

The Street Sweeper picked up 825 tons of sand and debris on its first pass through town last year. It picked up 1100 tons during the whole 2019 season. Please be patient,as the first lap through town takes about a month and a half to complete.

The sweeper cannot effectively be used while it is raining due to the fact that the sand becomes mud and can’t be picked up properly. Therefore, the schedule is dependent upon the weather so we cannot say with certainty which specific day the sweeper will be on a particular road. The entire town is swept once and then they start over again to assure that all of the streets are getting attention. There are 3-4 passes done on every street each year and more if needed.
